The long-closed Atlantic Club Casino has finally been sold. Florida-based TJM Properties confirmed on Tuesday that it has sold the shuttered property to Colosseo Atlantic City Inc., an investment and construction firm based out of New York. Financial details were not disclosed.
The Atlantic Club was one of the first casinos in Atlantic City, opening in December 1980, but it will not be revived as a gambling venue. In fact, there is a deed restriction that prevents it from being a casino. Instead, Colosseo plans to reopen it as an 800-room hotel. The property will also include new dining and retail.
“It’s got a lot of renovating that needs to be done; that’s what we do,”Colosseo’s Rocco Sebastiani said. “We buy assets that need a lot of work and bring them up to market.”
The Atlantic Club is located at Boston Avenue and the Boardwalk, the south end of Atlantic City’s stretch of casinos (or west end, depending on how you look at a map).
Rummy Pandit, executive director of the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality, and Tourism at Atlantic City’s Stockton University, told The Press of Atlantic City that the revived property could really help that end of the Boardwalk.
“If the property is marketed to a predefined segment, it’s going to be very successful,” he said. “Its location is amazing. … So this end of the Boardwalk would certainly benefit from that.”
The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, formerly known as Golden Nugget, Bally's Grand, The Grand, Atlantic City Hilton and ACH, is a closed casino and hotel located at the southern end of the boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey, owned and operated by Colony Capital. Atlantic Casino Club are part of the Game Tech N.V. Group/ AffPower Affiliates. Atlantic Casino Club and its sister sites: Park Lane, and EuroMoon are regulated in Curacao. This group has their casino platform provided by the AffPower group, an operator that has been caught using pirated Net Entertainment games. The site design is bright.
City Council President Marty Small, Sr. said that the sale of the Atlantic Club is “great news for our city.”
The Atlantic Club closed in January 2014, the first of four Atlantic City casinos to close that year. Video poker bankroll. A month prior, Judge Gloria M. Burns of U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Camden, New Jersey approved the sale of the casino for just $23.4 million to Caesars Entertainment and Tropicana Entertainment. Caesars paid $15 million for the property, while Tropicana paid the remainder for the slot machines and table games. Caesars removed many of the non-gambling assets of the casino and sent them to its four other local casinos.
There have been many near-deals to buy the Atlantic Club over the years. One of the most interesting to our readers was actually by the Rational Group in January 2013. Rational Group was at the time the parent company of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker.
Back then, PokerStars had no presence in the United States. The Rational Group filed for an interim casino authorization with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and was using the opportunity to try to re-enter the U.S. market. It wanted to rehab the casino and, of course, wanted to get in on the online poker market that was to launch later in the year.
A few months later, the deal fell through, likely scuttled by fears about PokerStars’ worthiness. The American Gaming Association filed a brief with the DGE and Casino Control Commission, protesting the Rational Group’s casino application because PokerStars continued to accept U.S. customers after the UIGEA passed in 2006. Some state legislators, including Assemblyman Ralph Caputo, took sides with the AGA, not wanting a company with PokerStars history of “criminal accusations and illegal gambling” to be able to own a casino in Atlantic City.

However, casino loyalty clubs in Atlantic City include more than just the big two. Some of the other casino properties in America’s Playground also offer excellent opportunities to earn and redeem rewards locally.
Here’s a look at three of the best casino rewards cards available exclusively in Atlantic City.
Ocean Wow Rewards Club
Casino Player magazine gave the Ocean Casino Resort player loyalty program its award for “Best Comps” two years in a row before Ocean Casino Resort decided to make it even better.
Ocean Casino Resort launched its revamped Ocean Wow Rewards Club on Oct. 1, giving players many reasons to visit one of the two revamped Atlantic City casinos that reopened in 2018.
The reimagining of the loyalty program includes allowing guests to earn exclusive perks and privileges with various national brands that Ocean Casino now calls partners.
The program features five tiers with increasing benefits. The more you play, the more tier points you earn, and the higher your status.
Benefits include flex comps, same-day free play, and free parking. But the perks rise as high as access to the VIP Lounge & Chairman’s Lounge, an annual $500 celebration dinner, and the choice of a yearly gift that may include a one-year lease on a Mercedes-Benz.
Ocean Wow Rewards Club members earn tier points and comp dollars or flex comps based on slot or table game play at Ocean. The comps can be used at 1:1 for dining, on-property shopping, or hotel stays. Plus, they can be used at 2:1 for slot play.
The Resorts Star Card
The Star Card is available exclusively at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. However, Star cardmembers can also use the comp dollars they earn at Resorts’ partner properties, including Mohegan Sun in Connecticut and Mohegan Sun Pocono in Pennsylvania.
So, this helps make the Resorts Star Card one of Atlantic City’s most generous player rewards programs.
There are five levels of the Star Card, each offering increased benefits and earning power.
Benefits start with complimentary and discounted hotel rooms, meals, and show tickets. But they quickly ascend to free spa and salon privileges at Resorts and free stays at the out-of-state sister resorts.
Resorts recently updated the program to make comp points redeemable at a 1:1 ratio in all Resorts’ restaurants, retail shops, and the hotel.
Obviously, this makes spending the points easier. Earning them is a little more complicated.
Resorts gives comp dollars, cash-back, and tier points to Star Card members based on things like Star Card level, game played, average bet, length of time played, and a game’s hold percentage.
Tropicana Atlantic City Trop Advantage
The Trop Advantage Players Club has been around as long as any in AC. However, this may be the lucrative player rewards program’s final days.
That’s because Tropicana Atlantic City is now an Eldorado Resorts property. That means it’ll likely become one of the 60 Caesars Rewards casino properties by the time the Eldorado-Caesars merger closes next year.
While members will likely be happy with the perks and benefits of the esteemed Caesars Rewards program, in the meantime, there’s still time to take advantage of what Trop Advantage has to offer.
Casino Player magazine has voted it the “Best Players Club” in Atlantic Cty for four years running. This recognition is thanks to the plentiful rewards members can enjoy.
